Is it just me, or has traffic over the last few weeks been significantly worse than usual?
Typically , I have no real issues getting anywhere if I’m on the road after 8am, some stop and go but ultimately moving. But lately— even after 930am — 405, 9, 5, and 520 are all dead stopped. Anecdotally, it will take me 65 minutes to drive to Medina, a drive that would typically take me 37 minutes at this time.
Sad!

Man I was gonna say that when gas prices get cheap Seattle traffic goes nuts, but it’s still $3+ out there. Last time I was at Costco here in DC - $1.99/gal
.

It has rained a lot lately, or been cold. People here can’t drive in rain, or snow, or sun, or fog, or drizzle, or clouds, or cold, or heat.

You’re not imagining things, and it’s getting a lot worse on the weekends too. I try hard to schedule meetings at the cus tomer site between 10:30 and 2:30

In unrelated Seattle road question, why is there not a bridge/tunnel across Puget Sound (north of Tacoma) ? Is it just a cost issue? It seems like there are enough people on both sides that it would be worthwhile.

Rain and before that ice. Wait until next week when the schools start getting out for winter break. Things will clear up a little more then.

That would be a very long bridge over deep water across shipping lanes to serve not too many people.

I’ve been noticing the same the last few weeks down in portland.

Puget Sound is incredibly deep - several hundred feet in most places. It comes up from time to time, but the depth of the tunnel required and the seismic activity in the area usually ends the discussion. Plus people really like the ferries. The closest it came was probably in the 50s and 60s, when floating bridges along the southern part of the sound were proposed. But these proposals were knocked back by public opposition.

It’s christmas time. Holiday traffic is the real deal. Everyone is out shopping even though you are in motherland of Amazon. Dec 27 you’ll be golden.

Quick reading suggests that tunnel proposals are vastly more common. I think it would serve a lot of people though, right now I assume people don’t want to make the trip because it looks hugely inconvenient. With a crossing, I imagine you’d see many more trips, even before you consider that it would enable new development.

Some of my 100% backroad work trips have been taking about twice as long the past 6 weeks or so. I’ve been wondering what the cause is as well

Lucky you! I’m not spending 2 hours in the car to save $10 for a fill-up though.

Which came first?
- Th e chicken or the egg?
- The highway or the housing development?
You’re right. If a bridge or tunnel was there, more people would move over to the island or peninsula.

T op of the economy - it was bad before the the last recession too. Kinda dreading having to drive down to Tacoma tomorrow in the middle of the day, in the rain. Giving myself two hours each way, (for a drive I could do in 25 minutes with no traffic and a radar detector...)
But LeMay is supposed to have the last remaining Bullitt mustang on display - may have to make quick stop on the way back to see it... https://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/article222636265.html
